01 EBIKE BOOST BUTTON

Fitting the Cytronex C1 electric bicycle conversion kit to a bicycle does not change the way the bike rides when the system is off, so when the terrain is easy, you don’t need assistance. When the going gets tough, just press the ebike Boost Button and smooth, refined and virtually silent assistance powers you up steep hills and through head winds. A Cytronex C1 assisted electric bike rides like no other electric bicycle.

Ebike Boost Button turns on and off with a single press. If you press and hold for one second the button will change colour and provide a different power level. You can set the power for each colour in the C1 App. Whatever power level you choose – your Cytronex ebike will add that precise power level to your cycling effort. Press and hold the ebike Boost Button for two seconds and you can turn on the optional high power LED bicycle lights. Read more

Customise your ride.

The Cytronex water bottle battery connects to your PC via USB whilst in the Charge Shoe so you can use the C1 App. This allows you to set exact power levels and the brightness of LEDs – day or night. The App includes a diagnostic function – in the event of an issue you can send a log file to Cytronex and you can update your system automatically when new software is available. The advanced all British electronics can maintain a precise power level so you can enjoy riding with family or friends. No other ebike does this.

05 CYTRONEX SENSOR

One Sensor, Low Maintenance, Easy fitting

Our multi patented Cytronex sensor replaces the 3 sensors required by other electric bike conversion kits to comply with regulations and fits quickly and easily without bicycle tools. Cytronex sensor detects the movement of a rear sprocket to monitor pedalling and bicycle speed on most bikes and the ultra fast response means a brake sensor is not required.

Sensor head swings out of the way if knocked during bicycle maintenance and can simply be flipped straight back to the original position.

06MOTOR

Discreet small and lightweight motor packs enough power to easily climb hills
and silently pass even the strongest riders.

Our new hub motor wheel is available in disc or V-brake versions, black or silver to match your rear wheel and a variety of sizes to fit your bike. Selecting European C1 provides 25Kmh maximum speed and the USA version has a maximum speed of 20mph. With Boost off, the motor hub is not engaged and the wheel spins freely without resistance. The motor weighs just 2Kg and the complete C1 conversion kit adds just 3.6Kg,- start with a good bicycle and the result is often 5Kg+ lighter than a purpose built electric bike. To charge – turn your bottle upside down and place in the charge shoe. The bottle LED will shine on the Cytronex logo to indicate charge level as charging progresses – if you are in a hurry you can see when you have enough charge for your journey.

Our compact fast chargers and charge indication function are perfect for topping up your battery when you stop for lunch or coffee – the Standard Charger will re-charge about 80% of battery capacity in 2 hours and the Fast Charger will do this in about 1 hour from empty.

The new Cytronex C1 is a wonderful piece of kit and inside 1 hour converts your bicycle into a very light, manageable electric bike. Best of all it upgrades your favourite bike. In 2012 my wife purchased a Cytronex Legacy bike. The following year I also purchased a Cannondale fitted with their system. Between us we have ridden over 15,000 miles. Sadly in late April 2022 my system died altogether and I was faced with cycling the Coast 2 Coast without assistance. A call to Jake at Cytronex and he assured me all will be well. The new kit arrived in three days, which is remarkable given supply issues in the rest of the industry. Within an hour it was fitted to my very dear Cannondale. 8 days later the four of us were in Whitehaven ready to start our journey across the United Kingdom to Tynemouth. A total of 140 miles and many thousands of feet of climb. The C1 performed very well and I managed to keep up with my wife on her Legacy bike and our two friends on their Raleigh Motus bikes. If you have one of the original Cytronex systems then I can thoroughly recommend the upgrade. It is: > easy to fit (adjusting the speed sensor is awkward) >the power rating has 5 settings so power usage can be conserved >the LED on the battery tells you how much energy you have left >the bluetooth app gives you detailed information about the condition of the battery >it comes with its own battery carrier with a provision for a padlock so one can leave the battery in situ and it is safe >it is a much simpler system without all the wiring and magnets of the old system >the new charger is smaller, lighter, simpler and it has a colour coding to inform you of the state of the charge Next year we are planning to cycle from Dieppe to Paris and I will be riding the Cannondale with the C1 again. What I will invest in before then is a Fast Charger to take on the road with me, just to boost the battery every time we stop for coffee and cake. Well worth the money and especially the satisfaction that serious bike users do not believe you own an Electric Bike! The system is very well crafted and unobtrusive.

As I approach the age of seventy with my formerly good knee now becoming the worse of the two, I was intrigued to watch Channel 5’s The Gadget Show feature on the C1 Cytronex e-bike conversion kit. It looked to be exactly what I needed to make life easier on the surprisingly hilly terrain in the Sussex Weald north of where I live. I duly made an appointment for a test ride at Cytronex’s shop in Winchester. I was received by the charming Sam who set me up with a smart Cannondale hybrid and she duly sent me off on the several handy hills nearby to test the mettle of the conversion. I was so impressed I soon placed an order for a kit to suit my trusty Claud Butler Voyager trekking/hybrid bike. Cytronex do offer new bikes fitted with the conversion or they can fit the kit on your existing bike for a fee. I opted for the DIY approach and, after providing several important measurements, the kit duly arrived tailor-made for my bike. The kit was beautifully packed and came with all instructions to help with fitting. As several have said before, fitting is relatively easy as long as you stick to the instructions, especially paying particular attention to the siting of the special sensor near the back sprocket set. Forty minutes is a rough estimate for the time it takes. After a week or so of riding, the beauty the system has fully revealed itself to me. Different levels of assistance can be switched on and off as needed and the extra weight still permits you to pedal unassisted even up gentle hills. In practice the lowest level of assistance is all you need for most trips and it can also be dispensed with altogether on the flat, or downhill. In this way I managed a total of 30 miles on two differing rides on one charge. The first had a total of 1100ft of ascent, using full assistance on a couple of short 20% hills but still leaving me with just under 50% battery life. On my next ride I managed a further 15 miles on flatter terrain which took me to under 5% battery. This is remarkable for a battery which is not one of the largest. The other advantage is that for short relatively flat trips the bike is perfectly rideable without assistance especially if you remove the battery from its mount, which saves 1.5kg of weight. You can easily replace the motorised front wheel with the original and revert completely should you so wish. The big plus with this system is that you are not tied to a heavy purpose built e-bike necessitating assistance being used at all times and with the danger, however remote, of being stranded away from home with a flat battery. Should the worst happen you would still be able to get home with relative ease. Nor does your bike look obviously like an e-bike. To the uncultured eye the bike looks like any “normal” bike with an extra large drinking bottle on the frame. This may not be the cheapest e-bike conversion kit but it is obviously a quality product with more than lives up to expectations.

I'd ridden a Brompton for seven years before I bought another one with electric conversion in mind. One more year of thinking about it passed before I took the plunge and sent my new(ish) 3 speed to have the Cytronex kit fitted by the company that designed and developed it. For someone familiar with the Brompton's unique advantages, and limitations, I have found this superb conversion to be absolutely delightful. It easily offers extended rural rides and because you can save on battery power at the touch of a button on the bar I have enjoyed journeys amounting to well over 40 miles carrying all my usual luggage. It is one of the very best bits of kit I've ever purchased in over 60 years of cycling.
